I’ve said it many times: we’re all surrounded and exposed to many toxic and harmful chemicals. But did you know that the product we use daily is one of the most dangerous? Of course, I’m talking about deodorants and antiperspirants and why we all should switch to natural deodorants.

When we step out of the shower, the first thing we do is roll on our deodorants. But with that, we absorb seriously harmful, toxic and cancerous chemicals such as Aluminum, Parabens, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates and Triclosan. What do these ingredients even do, you may ask.

Let’s find out:

Aluminum

Found in most conventional deodorants, aluminum is a type of metal used in antiperspirants. It blocks the pores so that sweat doesn’t escape. Unfortunately, it’s been linked to breast cancer for women and also been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Yet, it’s the primary ingredient in most deodorants.

Parabens

Parabens are synthetic preservatives used in deodorants and many personal care products such as shampoos, soaps and lotions. One of the worse things about Parabens is that it’s easily absorbed through the skin, which means if you use it, it’s in your body. Parabens are also known for causing disruption of hormonal balance.

Propylene Glycol

A common ingredient found in antiperspirants, this chemical is petroleum-based and is used to give cosmetics the texture needed. Unfortunately, it can cause damage and harm to the central nervous system, liver and heart.

Phthalates

Also used in many personal care products, Phthalates are easily found in conventional deodorants. However, it can be linked to a higher risk of birth defects, which suggests a link to hormone disruption.

Triclosan

Another common ingredient used to make commercial deodorant, and its function is to kill off the odour. But at what risk? It’s considered a pesticide by the FDA but continues to be found in many of our personal care products.

Is there a Solution?

So what do we do? Do we stop using deodorants altogether? Indeed, after knowing about all the chemicals and toxins, we can’t go back to using commercial deodorants. Ever heard of natural deodorants? Made from natural ingredients that fight off odour, keep you feeling fresh and soft without exposing you to chemicals. Doesn’t that sound better?

Toxic-Free & Natural Deodorants

Many people use natural ingredients to make their own toxic-free deodorants. One option is to use organic and raw coconut oil mixed with baking soda and arrowroot powder to make a homemade and simple deodorant that works for many people. The issue with this recipe is when the weather gets hot, and your deodorant melts – uh oh! So instead, beeswax is used as an ingredient to hold everything together, and you can pour it into an old deodorant container; once it cools, you can apply it as you would any deodorant.

But maybe you’re not into making your own deodorant but still want a natural alternative. Perhaps you’re too busy to figure out which recipe will work for you. Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with a vast range of toxic-free, effective and natural deodorants to keep you happy and fresh. So pick your scent without having to worry about dangerous ingredients.
