Happy New Year to all you lovely people out there! 2022 is here, and we’re sure it will be great. How? We’ve got some excellent New Years’ Resolutions and challenges that will be fun, exciting and most importantly, green. We’re devoted to making our planet safe, healthy, and beautiful more than ever. This means becoming aware of the daily choices and creating new and positive habits that are sustainable, low-impact and healthy.
If you’re on board, keep reading because we’re preparing for three awesome and kick-ass challenges to start us off for 2018. First, here’s the idea behind a one-month challenge. Many people believe that if you keep up something for a month, you can quickly develop a habit for life. Plus, challenges are fun! They get us all competitive, and you can even ask your family and friends to get involved. So the goal is to turn our New Years’ Resolutions into fun challenges that will become long-term habits and move us towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
Challenge #1: Veganuary
We’ve talked a lot about the importance of diet and environmental sustainability on this blog. Undoubtedly, consuming fewer animal products creates a better and more harmonious world for all of us. In addition, the health benefits of whole foods vegan diet are endless. The Veganuary challenge invites you to try a vegan diet for January. So go on, give it a try and take the pledge. You have nothing to lose.
Challenge #2: Zero-Waste Month
It’s predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in oceans than fish. Our world faces a severe plastic problem. The average American produces more than 4.4 pounds of trash daily! We’re filling up our beautiful planet with trash. How about if we pledge to live with less waste, less plastic and fewer disposables? All it takes is a little bit of planning. So here’s your challenge: go one month without producing any trash. Buy food without packaging, compost and recycle responsibly and opt for reusable alternatives. For more info, look at our previous blog on simple ways to go zero-waste. What do you say?
Challenge #3: Buy Nothing
We can’t talk about environmental sustainability without talking about its root: consumption. What if you gave up shopping altogether? Why not design a friendly competition with your close family and friends to buy nothing new? By giving up shopping, you reduce your waste, and you save lots of money that you can spend on experience rather than materialism. When you change your relationship with shopping and objects, you begin to experience life in an entirely different and new way. So give yourself a chance to live life to the fullest and free yourself from the world of ‘things’ and excessive consumption.
Which of these green challenges speak to you most? Maybe you’re fully on board, and you’ll give all of them a try? As you go through these challenges, think about your impact on the planet. Let’s all try to tread softly and live with more compassion for the earth and those living on it.
New Years’ Resolutions are a great way of visualizing your own future and a better world. So what’s it going to be for you? How will you envision your 2018?
