It’s not rocket science; sleep is one of the most critical factors for overall health. Our ability to focus, perform our best, and manage our weight and stress depends on a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, with everything going on in our daily lives, finding a way to unplug and relax isn’t always easy. So today, we’ll discuss essential oils for sleep to help you improve your rest.
How They Work
If you’re wondering how essential oils improve your sleep, keep reading. Selecting scents that promote and enhance your relaxation will help invite your body into a restful state, preparing you for better sleep. In addition, you can indulge in a sleep routine, and by using essential oils, your brain begins to associate certain scents with sleep time.
Using essential oils for sleep is a natural and healthy way of improving your sleep. For example, a study shows that smelling jasmine effectively calms and relaxes the nerves like a sleeping pill.
How to Use Essential Oils for Sleep
There are many simple ways of incorporating essential oils into your sleep routine. One of the easiest ways is using your favourite scents through an air diffuser. Another super-easy way is massaging a few drops onto parts of your body: the wrist, neck, and forehead are great spots if you want to relax.
You can also use essential oils on your pillow to have the scent around you. In addition, many natural face creams and soaps use essential oils for fragrance. These natural products will help you avoid toxins and chemicals and complement your sleep routine.
Creating the Perfect Sleep Routine
We all deserve a good night’s sleep. And it takes more than just essential oils. The proper routine, followed by suitable oils and ambiance, can help with relaxation. So here are a few tips to help you with your sleep.
- Turn off your electronics (phone, laptops, TV etc.) at least an hour before bed. The sounds, the lights, and the messages only distract you and interrupt your mind and body from relaxing. So turn everything off to slowly shut down your brain too.
- A nice cup of Camomile tea while you read your book can go a long way. So what better way to relax your body and prepare it for sleep time?
- Dim the lights as you begin to prepare for bed. Make sure you have an enjoyable routine every night. In addition to my dental care, I always apply natural oils to my face as a moisturizer. As a result, I keep my skin routine natural and organic.
- Then comes your essential oils for sleep: my favourite is lavender. I apply a few drops to my temples, massage them to relax me, and a few drops on my wrist. You can find out more about the benefits of lavender Here!
Having a bedtime routine is essential. There must be a point in your day where you stop and pause as you prepare for sleep.
