Autumn is probably my favorite season. I think it has to be the beautiful trees with their colourful leaves. But as much as I enjoy the change in season, it takes a bit of time for me to adjust. Is it just me, or do the more relaxed days make you feel tired too? I’m not making it up when I say exercise helps with energy levels. It boosts your mood, gets your heart going and leaves you feeling your best. And if, like me, the gym isn’t your favourite place, continue reading about low carbon and eco-friendly workouts to ease you into this beautiful season.

Are you ready for intense, eco-friendly workout tips to get you sweaty and connect you with nature? Like with anything else, we have to think about our environmental impact, and this includes our exercise and fitness routine too. Unfortunately, gym memberships cost loads, and they don’t do any good for the environment. But don’t worry, I’ve got unique ideas to help you get fit and strong this season!

Connect with Nature

Don’t neglect the outdoors. Sure it’s a bit nippy, but dress your best and leave the house. There’s nothing better for clearing the mind than a trip to the woods and a dose of clean air.

If you’re a cardio lover, you know well that a jog or a run will be your best friend. So put those layers on and get going. The best thing about going for a run is that you can see yourself improve over time. You can also choose a running time that fits best into your routine. And as low carbon and eco-friendly workouts go, it doesn’t get any better than running.

If running isn’t your cup of tea, worry not. It’s not meant for everyone. But that shouldn’t-including house. A long walk does wonders for your fitness and health. It can also be your mode of transport. Why not walk to work? Now that’s low carbon. If walking to your destination takes far too long, think about investing in a bike.

Low Carbon Indoor Exercises

What if you live in an icy country? I know running in the cold can be challenging for many people. Worry not; you can do loads of eco-friendly workouts at home. All you need is a bit of space, a floor, a chair, a mat and maybe a set of weights – no gym memberships or all that waste that comes with it.

One of the best workouts you can do to get in serious shape is High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). And for this, all you need is your body and a lot of dedication. It’s intense, and it works!

But if you’re into strength training, it’s not difficult to get super strong with weights, bands and bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, planks etc. I personally like to keep it diverse. I want to do a few days of weights and one or two HIIT sessions in a week. This way, I get the best of both worlds. The best FREE and accessible has to be Fitness Blender. No matter your fitness goals or level, I promise you’ll find something.

The Power of Yoga

And of course, we can’t talk about low carbon and eco-friendly workouts and not mention Yoga. I practice Yoga at home, but I also like to attend weekly classes to help me connect with other fellow yogis. I have signed up with an independent studio where various yoga instructors take turns using the space. When not in use, the place is shut. It keeps it low carbon but is also very cozy. So if you’re looking to get started with Yoga and want something to do in the comfort of your own home, then give Yoga with Adriene a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Change your Mindset

Finally, don’t forget about the bigger picture. The health of our minds and bodies is fully connected to the health of our planet. So why not adopt a routine that honours both? To keep to eco-friendly workouts, think about everything from the length of your showers to changing to reusable water bottles and keeping those yoga tights ethical.

Go Green with Eco-Friendly Workouts

Yours in health & fitness!
